Pharmapedia is written by pharmacists for pharmacists. However a central concept of the project is that contributions are reviewed by knowledgable experts. This counters the criticism often leveled at wiki sites that the content is subject to change by anyone and therefore not to be trusted. However, at the same time the ability for all users to contribute needs to be maintained.
This is achieved by the peer reviewing system we have in place. Managing Editors oversee sections of Pharmapedia and appoint Reviewers. Reviewers are responsible for rating the content of articles to ensure the quality and accuracy of the information and for users to be confident of the page content.
Reviewing is a continuous process whereby Reviewers agree contributions and changes to content by periodically accepting or rejecting content resulting in a new acceptable reviewed version of the page.
In some cases pages are commisioned by the Managing Editors but they are still reviewed following the same procedure.
Contributors are always able to add and edit material but these additions are considered 'draft' versions until reviewed. Following the reviewing process the content becomes the acceped or deemed a 'stable page'. These two versions can be seen at any time and the reader can switch between them. It is possible for the reader to decide which version is seen or to select only the stable version from their preferences setting.
